After taking a good long look at what had been happening in the summer and fall of 2010, during the Christmas holiday season I did a lot of soul searching and made a decision. Despite how much I love working in the Business Court, working for the State was just not the best fit for me. It's amazing, though, once you make a decision, how the Universe (God, whatever you believe in) starts to help you along in effecting all the little changes that need to happen to make the BIG CHANGE happen.
Things started falling in place, kind of like dominoes, in a way, culminating in the settling of a big two-week daily copy trial that was set for August in the Business Court. So instead of waiting until that was over, I could request to be relieved as of July 31st (or 29th, since it's a Friday).
This is my last week working for the State. I've met some great people, learned some new things - especially about myself - and am ready for the next chapter in my life.
I'm excited and sad at the same time, but in the end, we all have to make the decisions that are the very best for US. Nobody else can make them for us. I look forward to seeing you in the next phase of my journey as the traveling court reporter.
